June 14-16 Father’s Day weekend tournament aimed at raising awareness and funds to battle prostate cancer
YAPHANK, N.Y., June 3, 2013 – Baseball Heaven Long Island (BBH), one of the country’s premier baseball and softball centers, is teaming with Ed Randall’s Fans for the Cure to both heighten the awareness of prostate cancer and raise money for research in the fight against the deadly disease, the most commonly diagnosed cancer in American males according to the National Cancer Institute.
For its June 14-16 Father’s Day Weekend Baseball Tournament, which will feature 40 teams with players from 13-18 years of age from the greater New York and mid-Atlantic regions, BBH will be donating a portion of each team’s registration fee to the Ed Randall’s Fans for the Cure Prostate Cancer Foundation.
Founded by Ed Randall, host of WFAN’s “Ed Randall’s Talking Baseball” radio program in New York, Ed Randall’s Fans for the Cure aims to increase the awareness of prostate cancer in men and educate them and the people who love them about the most current techniques in treatment, prevention and early detection.
BBH is a portfolio company of Steel Sports Inc., a subsidiary of Steel Excel Inc. (SXCL: OTC).
“Prostate cancer is a disease that has affected – and will continue to affect – many people throughout our area,” said Frank Zitaglio, general manager of BBH. “As this tournament is taking place over Father’s Day weekend, this is an opportunity put the spotlight on the importance of getting screened and to get additional funding to help find a cure.”
“We’re extremely grateful that Baseball Heaven Long Island is helping us with our efforts to increase the awareness of prostate cancer and to educate the American people about cutting edge techniques in treatment, prevention and detection,” added Randall.
